Sierra Wireless EM9291 5G NR Sub-6 GHz Module

Based on Qualcomm’s 4th Generation SDX62 chipset, the EM9291 module supports 3gpp Release 16 features, offering optimised 5G NR performance for applications demanding Gigabit speeds by utilising 4×4 MIMO, 256-QAM together with Carrier Aggregation with up to two DL Component Carriers in 5G SA mode. A wide range of both 5G and 4G bands is supported, facilitating global 5G connectivity.

Offered on an M.2 form factor, the EM9291 maintains the footprint of the EM9191 module, offering a straightforward upgrade path to allow adoption of the latest standards and bands. It is also compatible with the EM7690 module, aiding in the smooth migration and differentiation between 4G LTE and 5G technologies. Two external SIM interfaces are available, offering a high degree of resilience to network outages.

The EM9291 features Secure Boot, preventing unauthorised firmware from being loaded and executed.

This embedded 5G NR Sub-6 GHz module offers 5G SA on a wide range of FDD and TDD bands, making it ideal for use on 5G private networks. With automatic fallback to 4G and 3G networks and an integrated GNSS receiver that supports GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Galileo satellite systems, the EM9291 is well-suited for a diverse range of IoT applications. These applications include industrial routers, home gateways, industrial and consumer laptops, rugged tablet PCs, as well as video surveillance and digital signage.
